All of the government employees hired during the conclusion of the tenure of the most recent governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, have been fired by the Abia State Government.
According to the state’s head of service, Joy Maduka, the impacted employees were hired between December 2022 and the present.
“In light of the ongoing restructuring of the Abia State Public Service in accordance with the provisions of the Abia Public Service Rules, I write to inform you that His Excellency, Governor Alex Otti has ordered the dismissal of all employees hired as of December 20, 2022, till this day.
However, His Excellency’s further instructions about this situation “shall be communicated in due course.”
Speaking on the development, the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, CPS, Kazie Uko, claimed that the State Executive Council had made the directive.
He labeled the hiring as political hiring on the part of the previous administration.
