President Bola Tinubu’s administration wants to strengthen ties with Cuba, Vice President Kashim Shettima said on Thursday.

Shettima reportedly made these remarks during a visit to Cuban Vice President Salvador Valdez Mesa at Havana’s Palace De Revolution, as per a statement released by Olusola Abiola, Director of Information, Office of the Vice President.

Tinubu sent Shettima to the G77+China Leaders’ Summit, which is being place in Havana, Cuba, from September 15 to 17.

During the visit, Shettima discussed Cuba’s longstanding ties to Africa and the continent more broadly, focusing on the country’s assistance to Southern Africa.

“We hold Cuba in high esteem, especially your commitment to us in Africa,” he said.

While praising the current connection, Shettima stressed the importance of recommitting to future ties between the two countries.

Our relationship has been fantastic over the years, and it’s time to take it to the next level. Because of this, I’ve brought with me the Ministers of Agriculture and Science, Technology, and Innovation to discuss potential areas for future collaboration, as the Vice President put it.

When Shettima delivered a personal message from President Tinubu to Cuba’s President Miguel Diaz-Canel, he reassured Diaz-Canel of the Nigerian government’s dedication to strengthening ties between the two countries.
