The FCTA’s Department of Development Control has formed a seven-person group to reduce the number of building collapses in Abuja, the nation’s capital.
After the committee’s inauguration on Wednesday in Abuja, its director, Mr. Mukhtar Galadima, explained to reporters that it was taken as part of preventative measures to address the ongoing problem of building collapse in the city.
No more building collapses should pass before we take action. This is why we formed a committee to look at buildings suspected of being unsafe for human habitation.
It’s a good idea to inspect each potential construction, determine its stability with an integrity test, and take down any unsafe buildings if necessary.
To ensure the safety of the public, “the committee will be looking out for structures that visually may look stable but are not, and recommend an integrity test,” Galadima explained.
He went on to say that the group would also suggest ways to cut down on building collapses in the FCT.
