Posted by As the country gets closer to the 2023 general elections, the chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, for Niger State, Most Rev. Bulus Dauwa Yohanna, has urged the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and his team at state levels to be firm, upright, and impartial in the performance of their duties.
In his Christmas speech delivered in Minna, Yohanna, who is also the Bishop of Kontagora Diocese, made this statement.
He advised the populace to take advantage of the chance to choose leaders who, among other things, have the ability, credibility, and good character necessary to foster an atmosphere in which all Nigerians can prosper, live in dignity, peace, and the freedom that God has granted them.
Yohanna urged all church leaders to take the association’s request seriously by urging their followers to go pick up their PVCs and not be deterred by the potential wait time.
“We shouldn’t stop at the point of encouraging; instead, we should actively advocate the Christian obligation to do our civic duty by attending to the polls on election day. A Christian deserving of the name must view the next election as a responsibility to save Nigeria from impending disaster and as a declaration of faith that God actually intends everything that is good for us. We will vote to bring about the fulfillment of God’s will for us and for our country, he said.
The Niger CAN stated that despite all the difficulties the nation and Niger State have faced in terms of security, the economy, and society, “there is so much to be grateful for God for, especially the uninterrupted democracy since 1999.”
The cleric described Christmas as a particular time when people from all over the world come together for the goal of sharing love via the giving and receiving of gifts and celebrating togetherness, joy, and peace.
God’s highest goal for us is to be really free, he continued. As followers of Jesus, we are obligated to do no less since the purpose of the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ is to set people free from the shackles of sin.
He also added:” as we celebrate the yuletide season, I admonish us all to heed the call of the gospel to bring about the reign of God which is peace, justice and equity in our land and in the world.”
