Posted by The Ogun State Government has ordered all party organizers to install portable restrooms at the locations of their gatherings in an effort to eradicate open defecation.
The order was given by Ola Oresanya, the commissioner for the environment in Ogun State, on Friday as he dedicated brand-new biogas energy public restrooms at the state secretariat in Oke-mosan, Abeokuta.
Oresanya stated that the 20 local councils in Ogun and environmental sanitation officers from his ministry will be mobilized to enforce the mandate.
Additionally, Oresanya demanded that all gas stations, restaurants, stores, motor parks, and other businesses around the State have functional public restrooms as part of the efforts to outlaw open defecation.
According to him, this became necessary to enhance sanitation and public hygiene in public areas.
When challenged, Oresanya said that the presence of functional restrooms would deter locals from urinating anywhere in the open while they are out of their houses.
The Commissioner has stated that 300 solar-powered public restrooms will be available within the next six months.
According to information obtained by kuryaloaded, the first phase of fifty restrooms is already at an advanced stage of development and will be completed by the end of January 2023.
He revealed that each of the 20 local governments would have a minimum of 10 public restrooms, with a minimum of 15 in the urban local government regions.
He urged people in Ogun to use the restrooms in their communities in order to improve public cleanliness and end open defecation.
