Goalkeeper David de Gea of Manchester United has a requirement to meet in order to stay at Old Trafford.

Since the Spaniard is certain he will complete his career at the Theatre of Dreams, the goalie will have to take a pay reduction in order to sign a new contract with the team.

De Gea is now six months into his current contract with the Red Devils, and the club decided not to exercise its option to extend it by another 12 months.

The Spain international would have continued to earn £375,000 per week if the extension had gone through until June 2024.

However, having agreed to United’s desire to reduce his pay, the club will now engage into a new discussion with the goalie who now agrees new agreements, according to the Daily Telegraph.

In 2011, former manager and club legend Sir Alex Ferguson recruited De Gea from Atletico Madrid to Old Trafford.
