Between July and September 2022, the Contributory Pension Scheme gave N13.36bn to the families of 2,304 workers who had died.
The National Pension Commission, PenCom, said this in its most recent quarterly report for the third quarter of 2022.
The report said that the Commission paid the families of 1,722 public workers who died on the job and 582 private workers who died on the job.
The pension regulator said, “In the third quarter of 2022, the necessary approvals were given for the payment of death benefits totaling N13.36bn to the legal beneficiaries/administrators of 2,304 deceased employees and retirees.” It is made up of 1,722 public (Federal and State) and 582 private (private sector) workers and retirees.
The Commission promised to take action against family members, workers, and retirees who fake the death of a contributor in order to get benefits that the person who died should have gotten.
