What I heard about Wike’s supposed support for Tinubu – Rivers APC gubernatorial candidate Tonye Cole

Tonye Cole, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Rivers State, has responded to Governor Nyesom Wike’s rumored support for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

According to rumors, the Rivers State Governor has directed civil servants and members of his party in the state to support Tinubu, the APC’s presidential candidate.

Cole was questioned if he was aware of the Governor’s pledge of support for Bola Tinubu on Arise Television’s The Morning Show on Thursday.

The business magnate added that he was only aware of Wike’s instruction to members of his party and local government chairmen not to support the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential candidate, and also not to allow the APC to have rallies in the state.

“It’s a small village. Politics is a small family, and everyone knows everyone. So one of the things we’ve heard is that he’s given local government chairmen orders to prevent the APC from organizing any rallies, to disrupt all of our events.

“Local government chairmen have been threatened with discipline if they allow us to hold rallies, as we’ve heard.

“We’ve also heard that they have given explicit orders that they must not support Atiku in any way. We haven’t heard whether they’ve been told that they must support Tinubu. But I am aware that they are not behind Atiku.

“They’re not on our side” (APC Rivers State). They claimed that we had to be completely disrupted. But I haven’t heard them mention anything about supporting Bola Ahmed Tinubu, my presidential candidate.

“Wike had mentioned that he will make an announcement on the 31st of January about who he is supporting but we waited for that announcement but it didn’t arrive.

“But he did add that all members of his possible party will know who he is supporting so maybe the rumours might be genuine. Perhaps he has told them. but I haven’t heard anything.”
