On Thursday, an Upper Shari’a Court in Kano State annulled the marriage of Asiya Ganduje and Inuwa Uba.

Asiya is Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje’s daughter.

According to the Judge, Malam Abdullahi Haliru, the marriage was terminated through Khul’i (divorce by Islamic means).

The judge ordered the plaintiff to repay the N50,000 dowry paid by the respondent 16 years ago.

Halliru determined that the conditions Inuwa before presented “shall be founded on Islamic Sunnah on Khul’i”.

“Khul’i is predicated solely on restoring a woman’s dowry.

“The disease should not impact her in any way, especially when it comes to giving up her fortune,” he said.

Asiya had insisted on returning the bridal fee in exchange for a divorce through her lawyer, Ibrahim Aliyu-Nassarawa.

The petitioner stated in her application that she was weary of her relationship with Inuwa.

According to Asiya, “any woman living in odd circumstances” has the right under Islamic law to seek the dissolution of her marriage.

Previously, Inuwa’s lawyer, Umar I. Umar, indicated that the problem extended beyond the payment of N50,000 in dowry.

“The respondent has four children with the plaintiff, but all attempts to reunite them have failed,” Umar added.

Inuwa stipulated that Asiya surrender his credentials, housing certificates, and cars, as well as forfeit her rights in their joint rice firm.
