Legal eminence Aare Afe Babalola has urged the federal government to form a committee for the prompt payment of a sizable portion of the nation’s external debt.

The legal authority who made the announcement in Ado Ekiti told reporters that the proposed committee would enlist the aid of multibillionaires, quadrillionaires, and other patriotic Nigerians who would donate in order to pay off the debt.

He claims that the recommendation is required to prevent Nigeria from going bankrupt.

He made the frightening observation that the nation’s external debt had risen to N42.84 trillion as of June 2022.

According to him, the Federal Government should follow the example of the late President Olusegun Obasanjo and approach the creditors in order to either completely forgive or significantly reduce the debt.

Assuring that he would contribute to making sure the debts are paid, Aare Babalola suggested that the committee be made up of people of immaculate integrity like Pastor Enoch Adeboye, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, and Bishop Mathew Kukah.

Regarding the next elections, Aare Babalola stated that the 1999 Constitution should be amended since it would make it harder for Nigeria to develop good leaders.

Ado Ekiti, a legal legend and the founder of Afe Babalola University, said that any election held under the current constitution will result in a reelection of the people who brought the nation to its current state.

According to Babalola, the nation needs a constitution that would take into account the candidates for the Presidency and National Assembly’s age, educational background, moral character, contributions to community development, and family history.

He bemoaned the numerous issues the nation was experiencing and said that, for the benefit of Nigerians, aggressive action should be taken to put an end to the threats.
