Victor Boniface, a forward from Nigeria, has signed with Bayer Leverkusen of the Bundesliga.
Boniface transferred to the Bay Arena from Union St. Gilloise of the Belgian Pro League.
The 22-year-old, who will wear number 22 on the team, has committed to a five-year deal.
Bayer Leverkusen noticed the striker when he scored a goal against them in the UEFA Europa League the previous season.
Simon Rolfes, the sporting director of Leverkusen, expressed his delight at signing Boniface.
“We’ve had Victor Boniface on our radar for a long time,” Rolfes said on the club’s official website.
Our initial favorable impression was solidified after witnessing his performance in a face-to-face combat. Victor is a constant presence in the middle of the field, making him a thorn in the side of every defender. He’s quick and very good with technology, too.”
The forward played in all ten Europa League games last season, and he scored six goals and dished out two assists.
He transferred to Union St. Gilloise from Bodo/Glimt of Norway last summer.
