The “heinous and senseless” murder of Omobolanle Raheem, a member of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), by police officers who were on duty on Christmas Day was denounced by President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday night.

Buhari expressed his astonishment and sadness at learning about Raheem’s horrific murder.

Additionally, the President instructed the police to pursue “the harshest possible measures” against the offenders currently in custody.

Garba Shehu, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, revealed this in a statement on Tuesday.

According to Buhari, this incident serves as a stark reminder of the persistent threat posed by improper handling of weapons and a wake-up call to law enforcement organizations, including the Police, to ensure the full implementation of reforms put in place by the administration on the topic of improper handling of weapons as well as the protection of citizens’ rights.

“The nation stands in sympathy with the grieving family and the NBA during this hour of sadness. Justice will be served in this matter, I can guarantee you of that, the President remarked.
