Chelsea has finalized the transfer of Lyon midfielder Malo Gusto for €40 million (£35.1 million).
The 19-year-old will remain on loan with Lyon for the remainder of the season after the French club stated the Blues will pay €35 million (£30.7 million) plus €5 million (£4.4 million) in bonuses for the defender.
Gusto passed his physical yesterday at the Blues’ training complex and signed a seven-and-a-half-year contract.
Lyon’s academy produced the 19-year-old, who made his professional debut for the French club two years ago.
Graham Potter’s side has signed Gusto to provide competition for Reece James.
Chelsea announced on Sunday morning that the “exciting 19-year-old right-back” had signed a contract extension that will keep him at Stamford Bridge until 2030.
The player has returned to Lyon, where he is scheduled to spend the rest of the season, according to the club.
