Mr Osatimehin Wole, Commander-General of the Nigeria Hunter and Forest Security Service, NHFSS, advised men and officers of the service on Friday not to use their uniforms and arms to intimidate Nigerians, but rather to collaborate with other security agencies in detecting and preventing forest crime in accordance with the agency’s mandate.
On Friday, he delivered the advise when inaugurating the NHFSS Imo State Command Headquarters in Owerri.
The bill to establish the service, according to the Commander-General, is now awaiting President Muhammadu Buhari’s signature.
He stated his hope that the President will sign the bill into law as soon as possible after thanking both chambers of the National Assembly for their support of the bill establishing the Service.
“I am glad to inform you that the bill for the formation of the NHFSS has [passed] readings of both chambers of the National Assembly and is currently pending President Muhammadu Buhari’s assent.
“As much as we welcome this wonderful development, I would like to remind you that this is a call to service that must not be sacrificed on the altar of ethnicity, family ties, or religion,” he said.
Speaking at the event, Imo Commander of the NHFSS, Mr Fabian Iwuoha, urged for improved discipline among his soldiers and commanders and committed to continue doing his best to strengthen the command.
Gov. Hope Uzodinma, who was represented at the ceremony by Mr Chimezie Amadi, Imo State Commissioner for Digital Economy, pledged his continuous support for the security outfit and advocated for increased collaboration among security agencies.
