The Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) Chairman Mahmood Yakubu has been the target of a lawsuit, according to the Department of State Services (DSS), which has denied doing so.

Prior to a potential arrest, the security agency is reported to have filed a lawsuit against the professor for allegedly failing to declare his assets.

The spokesperson, Peter Afunanya, claimed that the INEC Chairman was not the problem and blamed the misunderstanding on a newspaper.

The media outlet “skewed what happened in court and published it out of context,” the DSS stated.

Afunanya expressed dissatisfaction of the report and added that the internet and printed versions of it were different.

“The aforementioned report is false. It was misrepresented that the Service had filed a lawsuit against the INEC Chairman, he said.

According to the statement, the DSS is aware of the mischievous characters’ actions, particularly their desire to stir up controversy before the general elections, in order to fuel the problem.

“One of their tactics is to undermine the initiatives taken to ensure peaceful cohabitation. Another is a desire to inflame politics, take advantage of the judiciary, or undercut security and law enforcement organizations.

The secret agency cautioned such people and organizations to abandon their cunning schemes and recommended all parties involved to exercise caution and rebuff any attempts to utilize them to evade the law.
