The high cost of transportation for farmers has been exacerbated by the loss of subsidy, but on Tuesday, Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno issued 80 vehicles to help with the problem.

Free transportation for farmers to their farms is being provided by a fleet of 50 buses and 30 pick-up vans, according to a statement released in Maiduguri by Special Adviser on Media and Strategy, Mallam Isa Gusau.

To help offset the rising cost of life brought on by the elimination of a gasoline subsidy, Governor Babagana Umara Zulum on Tuesday made available 80 buses and pick-up vans at no cost to the country’s farmers.

The Borno State Government will hire 30 pick-up vans and deploy 50 luxury buses from the Borno Express Corporation’s fleet to transport residents.

While eliminating gasoline subsidies will have positive effects in the long run, the move has led to higher gas prices in the short term.

To help get farmers to their fields during the rainy season, the Borno State Government has agreed to offer 50 buses and 30 pick-up vans, as reported by Gusau citing Zulum.

Farmers along the Maiduguri – Damboa road were also addressed by the governor, who urged them to work with the military and other security forces stationed there for their own safety.

He also thanked the armed forces and other security forces for their efforts to keep the public safe.
