On Saturday afternoon, Barcelona and Espanyol engaged in a tight 1-1 draw in a Catalan derby that saw both teams finish with ten men.
Marcos Alonso’s header gave Barca the lead in the seventh minute, but Espanyol answered with a Joselu penalty in the 73rd.
Referee Antonio Mateu Lahoz then sent out Jordi Alba, Vinicius Souza, and Leandro Cabrera of Espanyol in rapid succession amid a flurry of cards, before overturning Cabrera’s red following a VAR review.
However, Espanyol got back into the game when Joselu was brought down in the 71st minute by an Alonso challenge, stepped up, and scored from the spot past Marc-Andre Ter-Stegen.
