Ahmadu Fintiri, the governor of Adamawa State, has released three prisoners from a state prison.
Zaro Boniface, Luka Grastone, and Jauro Banyi, who were all serving prison sentences in the Numan Correctional Center in the Numan Local Government Area, received pardons from the governor.
In a same vein, the governor gave his approval for Jibrilla Usman, a prisoner at Yola Town’s Custodial Center, to have his death sentence reduced to a life term.
Fintiri, who made the decisions as part of celebrations for the anniversary of Nigeria’s independence, did so on the advice of the Advisory Committee on Prerogative of Mercy and in accordance with the authority granted to him under Section 212(i)(d) of the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria.
The three inmates were released as part of the governor’s directive, according to a statement made by his chief press secretary, Mr. Humwashi Wonosikou, in honor of the 2023 Independence Day celebration.
The governor had earlier claimed that Nigeria can only be as great as Nigerians make it in his Independence Day speech.
Statehood provided Nigeria with a historical chance to halt colonial tyranny, make autonomous decisions about the future of the nation, and build a secure future, according to Fintiri.
