For a variety of offenses, the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has degraded 14 employees and fired about 4 for service.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the NIS’s spokesman, DCI Tony Akuneme, revealed that the staff members appeared before the Orderly Room Trial Committee of the Service before they were disciplined.

The action was taken as part of attempts to purge the Service of bad apples and to further the Federal Government’s battle against corruption, according to Akuneme.

Two additional employees were redeployed to different places, 11 others received warning letters, and one employee was forced to resign from service, according to the statement’s additional details.

According to the announcement from the Committee, four other employees were fired or found not guilty, while 11 more were still awaiting trial.

The spokesperson gave the populace the reassurance that there are no sacred cows in the NIS because all violators will be dealt with fairly and without favoritism.

In the statement, it was requested that the general people exercise caution and help the Service fulfill its purpose more fully.

The message added advised the general public to contact the NIS through any of its channels with suggestions, questions, or complaints.
