The government of Enugu State has advised its citizens to ignore IPOB’s call for a sit-in on Monday and continue as usual.
Government employees, educational institutions, and commercial establishments who comply with the unlawful order face possible sanctions.
According to the Nigerian News Agency (NAN), Chidiebere Onyia, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), issued the directive in a signed statement.
‘The Enugu State Government desires to remind the good people and residents of the state that the ban on the illegal Monday sit-at-home order remains effective,’ he stated.
“In light of the foregoing, it is hereby ordered that all government employees, schools, markets, financial institutions, and places of business reopen on Monday as usual.”
The SSG demanded that the state government reaffirm its intention to punish those who disobey its rescinding of the unconstitutional order.
To paraphrase the law, “markets that fail to open to customers on Monday shall be shut down indefinitely,” and “shops in the markets that close on Monday shall be sealed and re-allocated to those eager to do business in the state.”
