Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri has cancelled the charging of fees by public school Parent Teachers’ Associations (PTAs).

The Governor stated on Monday that such taxes violated his administration’s free education policy.

The Governor, who spoke at the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Secretariat in Yola to CAN officials and church leaders from across the state, said he could not support PTA charges while his administration is implementing a free education scheme.

“Education is free here,” he said. I can’t stand it any longer when PTAs fix fees. We come to relieve parents of the strain of paying fees, and we don’t want anything that sounds like fees disguised as something else.”

The Governor stated that he was taking steps to prevent the indiscriminate charging of taxes under whatever pretense because it contradicted his free education scheme.

Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, who was visiting the CAN Secretariat to meet with CAN officials and other Christian leaders, stated that his security measures have enhanced religious unity, among other things.

Earlier in the occasion, the state chairman of CAN, Bishop Dami Mamza, stated that Christians in the state were devoted to the state’s unity and progress.

“CAN has the vision of a just and flourishing state where everyone will enjoy equity,” said Mamza, who is also the Catholic Bishop of Yola. We aspire to develop a better Adamawa State for the benefit of all.”
