Chelsea’s struggling striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has come under fire from Arsenal icon Ray Parlour, who claims the Gabonese star has no desire to play for the West London club.
Parlour thinks Aubameyang is Chelsea’s main issue because the Blues haven’t had a proper number nine in their lineup since Didier Drogba left the team many years ago.
He spoke after Chelsea’s 1-0 loss to Manchester City in the Premier League on Thursday night at Stamford Bridge.
Aubameyang struggled to make an impression after coming on after five minutes due to Raheem Sterling’s injury. He appeared to be a shell of his former self.
The 33-year-old endured the humiliation of being substituted midway through the second half, and Parlour is of the opinion that the former captain of Arsenal made no runs throughout the match.
He simply doesn’t appear interested. The main issue you have is that, Parlour told talkSPORT.
“They haven’t had real number nines since guys like Drogba, who played for Chelsea for many years, Hasselbaink, and others like them. Lukaku?
“They are really failing to find a true striker, whether it’s because of the manner they play or the fact that it’s not ideal for them.
“I would want Chelsea to look at a striker” (in terms of new signings). When Aubameyang entered the game, he didn’t seem like the same player to me. He didn’t seem to be having fun playing football, didn’t make any runs, and didn’t seem to be participating much.
