Hugo Lloris, a goalkeeper for Tottenham, has given up playing for his country.
On Monday, the finalist for the 2022 World Cup and the 2018 World Cup announced his retirement from international football.
The goalkeeper announced that it was time to pass the ball to the younger player to continue.
Lloris told L’Equipe, “There comes a period when you have to know how to hand over.”
“I don’t want to take control. I’ve maintained consistently that nobody owns the French team.”
The Tottenham player declared that Mike Maignan should succeed him because he was confident the team could carry on without him.
I’d rather go out at my peak than wait for a slump, he continued.
