The Peoples Democratic Party in Imo State said on Friday that bandits, terrorists, kidnappers, and other non-state actors currently control more over half of Imo territory and inflict suffering and death upon the Imo people.
In a statement released by Collins Opurozor, the PDP’s press secretary in the state, the party said that Uzodimma’s poor leadership was to blame for the state’s continued instability.
According to the opposition party, farmers have abandoned their farmlands, which has led to an unprecedented spike in crime as well as poverty and malnutrition. Imo was the most tranquil state in Nigeria three years ago. Right now, our state is a killing field!
The PDP criticized Gov. Uzodinma’s performance record, saying it is terrible that while terrorists are killing Imo citizens every day, Senator Uzodinma only considers how to politicize the situation.
Imo has turned into a killing field in just three years under Uzodinma’s disastrous APC rule, according to PDP. We used the opportunity to warn the Nigerian and international communities about Uzodinma’s intentions to use the Ebubeagu Militia and other violent means to rig the elections in Imo State in 2023.
The PDP continued by claiming that over the past 36 months, Senator Uzodinma’s administration collected N180.6 billion from the FAAC, money that was intended for the State’s local governments. Nothing seen on the ground today indicates that even a Kobo has reached the LGAs.
PDP claims that Senator Hope Uzodinma needs to immediately reveal to the people of Imo where he put the N180.6 billion that belonged to the local governments.
“Uzodinma relentlessly wants to use it to demonize and discredit his alleged political adversaries. This governor poses a serious threat to society and is obviously unqualified to hold office.
As the elections of 2023 approach, the failed government of Senator Uzodinma is already developing a cunning plan to use violence to rig the results of the election and prolong its illegitimate hold on power. The Ebubeagu Militia, which is backed by Uzodinma, is anticipated to play a key role in the process of undermining democracy in the State, according to reliable intelligence that our party has collected.
“On election day, what might be seen is a scenario where BVAS accreditations are permitted, and then the Ebubeagu Militia takes over to complete the voting and transmission. The APC regime in Imo used the highly manipulated February 2022 State Constituency By-election in Ngor Okpala as a test case for this crime against democracy.
“Imo PDP thus urges that the Ebubeagu Militia be disbanded right away. The Inspector General of Police ought to perform admirably. Since Ebubeagu started operating in Imo State, the number of homicides, kidnappings, and arson attacks has skyrocketed. The Militia’s continued existence is not justified!
“Imo people should understand that we would all become refugees in other countries if this bestial dictatorship in the State is permitted to set everything on fire and render all of Imo uninhabitable.
With the clear and patriotic goal of permanently ousting this unelected dictatorship, everyone in the State must now turn out, join forces, and take part in the electoral process. For the sake of our shared survival, this is what we owe to ourselves. We owe it to the generations that will follow us. All those who remain mute in the face of oppression lose the man.
