Venita Akpofure, a former housemate on Big Brother Naija All Stars, has apologized to the Tiv people for an offensive remark she made about their culture.

According to kuryaloaded, Venita’s comments on the show about how “Tiv men give their wives to visitors for entertainment purposes” caused a stir.

Mdzough U Tiv, Lagos State Branch, the main Tiv socio-cultural organization, and Hon. Dickson Tarkighir, the member of Congress for Benue State’s Makurdi/Guma Federal Constituency, had both threatened legal action against Venita.

The mother of two expressed sorry for her “careless” comment in an interview with media personality Hero Daniels after her expulsion, noting that her girls are Tiv.

Her original comments regarding the Tiv people were misconstrued, she admitted. All three of my kids are of Tiv descent. I have no intention of ever making a harmful or defamatory statement against them or their people. In my season, we even staged a play centered on the crowning of Tor Tiv, which I enthusiastically took part in.

“So, you know, there are occasions when what you say could be considered a bit thoughtless. Furthermore, I believe it was largely misunderstood. Also, I apologize to anyone I may have upset.
