Governor Simon Lalong has denied accusations that herders have taken over some Plateau settlements.
The governor addressed the speculations on Sunday at a service commemorating the 2023 Plateau Forgiveness Day at St. Monica Catholic Church in Jos.
“I can state unequivocally that there is no report on my table indicating that any village has been taken over,” he said.
Lalong, on the other hand, pleaded with the people to pardon the government for the hardship caused by a lack of petrol and new naira notes.
The governor and his colleagues expressed alarm about the issue and met with the president to discuss it.
“On behalf of all of us, we apologize for the harm done to society and ask for forgiveness,” he stated.
Lalong emphasized that the Federal Government was working hard to ease the policy’s hardship.
Plateau Forgiveness Day, observed annually on February 7, was conceived as part of ongoing attempts to restore peace.
The Plateau Peace Building Agency undertook the initiative, which was introduced by President Muhammadu Buhari in 2018.
