Lawmaker condemns deaths in the Kagoro Chiefdom and demands action to stop assaults

Mr. Gideon Gwani, a member of the House of Representatives and the representative for the Kaura Federal Constituency, has urged both the federal and state governments of Kaduna to act swiftly to put an end to the attacks in Southern Kaduna that have resulted in the loss of life and property.

Speaking to reporters on Sunday at the Kagoro Chiefdom prayer summit organized by the Global Peace Foundation Nigeria, the congressman said that his constituents’ lives have become intolerably difficult due to the ongoing attacks and the resulting insecurity.

He stated: “The recent renewed attacks are something that one can’t really understand, but on our part, we are talking to the people to always be law-abiding and allow the security personnel to do their constitutional duties by making sure the perpetrators of the deadly acts are made to face the full wrath of the law.”

He explained that he has introduced motions in the House of Representatives on behalf of the region, adding that although there have been resolutions, it is up to the government to ensure that actions are made to bring peace and normalcy to the entire Southern Kaduna.

“Following the different attacks, many communities have been abandoned, while the affected people are left to bear their crosses with nothing coming from the government to resettle them so they may get on with life,” he continued.

He voiced concern over the military’s failure to respond quickly to stop the assailants from killing people and destroying property in the Kagoro settlements, but he applauded the police’s efforts for acting quickly to avert the crisis.
