The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has started compiling the names of its junior officers who earned bachelor’s degrees in science (BSc) or higher national diplomas (HND).
Heads of all commands were instructed to urgently send a thorough list of all Inspectors, as well as rank & file personnel operating under them with BSc. or HND qualifications, according to a police wireless message from the Force headquarters, Admin and Welfare, Abuja, dated September 29, 2023.
The wireless message with the subject line 4001/WEL/FHQ/ABJ/VOL.10/48 also asked the police commissioners to send a list of junior-ranking attorneys to the force headquarters.
“Ingenpol directs as a matter of urgency that you forward a comprehensive list of all Inspectors and rank & file serving under you, who are graduates of BSC/HND and lawyers,” read the normally encrypted police signal.
The list must be organized under the following headings: Serial No., AP/F No., rank, name, gender, date of birth, date of enlistment, date of most recent promotion, school attended, discipline, graduation date, date of call to bar (for lawyers), phone number, email, and others.
Without a strong reminder, the Inspector-General’s Secretary emphasized that the list must be submitted on or before October 6, 2023.
To guarantee no omission, the police commissioners were admonished to take the message as essential.
According to information obtained by our correspondent, the NPF intends to advance the force’s graduates to the senior position of the Superintendent of Police cadre.
Junior police officers with law degrees or other qualifications in other fields will soon be considered for elevation in due course, the Police Service Commission Chairman Dr. Solomon Arase had stated in June.
Arase was quoted as having said, “The commission may decide to send these categories of police lawyers and other junior policemen with additional qualifications on short-service training, after which they would be properly placed as officers,” during a meeting with lawyers in June.
