Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, has urged the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, not to postpone the old naira regime deadline after February 10.
The Atiku campaign committee revealed this in a statement made on Wednesday.
To fulfill their goals, vote riggers, according to Atiku, want to pressure the CBN to prolong the date till after the 25 February and 11 March general elections.
The former vice president requested that the apex bank promptly assess the procedures it has put in place to ensure the circulation of the new naira notes and alleviate the difficulties that Nigerians, particularly rural people, are currently experiencing.
“There should be no additional deferral on the new naira regime after the expiration of the February 10 deadline,” the statement said.
“The vote riggers are aiming to urge the CBN to extend till after the election when they would have achieved their nefarious designs.
“The CBN and the Presidency must remain firm. “The benefits of the new naira policy far outweigh the minor inconvenience.”
