Assuaging the concerns of Ibadan citizens regarding the confirmation of Oba Owolabi Olakulehin as the 43rd Olubadan, the Oyo State administration yesterday promised to communicate with the people “not too long.”
According to Olusegun Olayiwola, commissioner for local government and chieftaincy matters, who spoke in Ibadan, the apparent delay is caused by some administrative obstacles.
You may remember that the South East Local Government Area was notified of Oba Olakulehin’s nomination as Olubadan-designate by the Olubadan-in-Council, headed by High Chief Rashidi Ladoja (the Otun Olubadan), who in turn notified the Commissioner for Local Government, who in turn notified Governor Seyi Makinde.
Despite the passage of nearly five weeks, the state’s populace is still waiting for the green light from the governor.
“The process of coronating an Oba is not something one should toy with,” the commissioner added, calming the people’s anxieties. We must adhere to the rules of procedure since this is a supreme monarch, an Imperial Majesty.
“We need to investigate a few things. Consideration of certain administrative tasks is required. Nonetheless, I can guarantee that you will hear from us in the near future.
