For the benefit of Nigeria, former president Olusegun Obasanjo urged leaders at all levels to support democracy that eradicates poverty, creates jobs, and provides sufficient safety.

On Friday, Obasanjo delivered the keynote address at the opening ceremony for the restored 34.8 kilometers of Oyo-Iseyin Road in Oyo town.

Obasanjo believed that a democracy that fostered poverty, unemployment, and insecurity was a hallmark of historical backwardness and should be abandoned.

Noting that Oyo had been renowned as a cassava farming centre, he emphasized the significance of planting some special crops that would set Oyo State apart from others.

He advocated for the state to increase its food security by cultivating an additional important crop.

Obasanjo praised Governor Seyi Makinde’s foresight in rehabilitating, reconstructing, and building highways connecting the state’s five zones, noting the vital relevance of such infrastructure.

He claimed that these projects will hasten economic and social progress throughout the areas.

He asked the people of Oyo State to back Governor Makinde’s administration so that the state’s economy may flourish.
