In anticipation of the Osun gubernatorial election petition tribunal’s decision, security has been increased in Osogbo, the state capital.
The tribunal secretariat declared on Tuesday, January 24, 2023, that judgment on the petition brought by Adegboyega Oyetola and the Osun All Progressives Congress (APC) against Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) win had been set for Friday, January 27, 2023.
Heavily armed police officers and Armoured Personnel Carriers (APC) were stationed at the APC’s Osun Secretariat, the SWAGA campaign office, the Adegboyega Oyetola campaign office, and Governor Ademola Adeleke’s Imole House campaign office.
In addition, heavily armed security men were stationed at the Osun State High Court, where the tribunal would be sitting.
The road from the Service Lameco area to the Osun High Court has been heavily fenced off, as has the road from Oke-Fia.
Residents in the capital, on the other hand, were seen going about their daily lives, with the only cause for alarm among commuters being the persistent fuel shortage.
The tribunal is scheduled to begin sitting at 9 a.m. on Friday.
Ademola Adeleke is being challenged by Adegboyega Oyetola on two grounds: Adeleke’s educational qualifications and the problem of over-voting during the July 16 gubernatorial election.
