The late Brazilian legend Pele has been listed as one of the six “eternal” talents of football by Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola.
This was what Guardiola stated on Friday in an homage to Pele, who passed away on Thursday night at the age of 82 following a battle with colon cancer.
The Spanishman believes that Pele and athletes like Diego Maradona, Johan Cruyff, Lionel Messi, Franz Beckenbauer, and Cristiano Ronaldo will transcend sports.
Guardiola said this to the media during his pre-game press conference before Man City’s Premier League match against Everton on Saturday at the Etihad Stadium: “I never aspire to be Pele, honestly.
“Although I never saw him play, the folks I spoke with thought he was the best. Not only has he won three World Cups, but he has also scored goals and was a novel idea when he first emerged.
“He wasn’t playing when I was born. Because he was so good, his legacy is like a good movie or a wonderful book that we are still talking about.
“Players like Pele, Maradona, Cruyff, Messi, Beckenbauer, and Cristiano Ronaldo will live forever. These players, who have been doing numerous things for many years, improve our industry and the environment where we work.
