Peter Obi, the Labor Party’s Presidential Candidate, has lamented the death of Prof Eleazar Ikonne, the Peoples Democratic Party’s governorship candidate in Abia State.
Ikonne died on Wednesday following a brief illness, according to the kuryaloaded.
Peter Obi, who expressed astonishment over the death on his Twitter page, commiserated with Abians.
“I was devastated to learn of the tragic death of Prof. Uche Ikonne, the Peoples Democratic Party’s Governorship Candidate in Abia State,” he added.
“I express my heartfelt condolences to Abia State Governor, H.E. Okezie Ikpeazu, the PDP Family, and the whole Abia State people on this extremely unfortunate incident.”
He also ordered that the Presidential Rally in the state scheduled on January 31st be moved to February 4th.
“May God Almighty, who called him home provide him eternal rest in His Kingdom, and allow his immediate family, and the noble people of Abia state the courage to bear his irreplaceable loss.
“In reverence, we have postponed our Labour Party’s Presidential Rally in Abia state, initially slated for 31st January to 4th February, to allow a week of mourning for the deceased.
“May God Almighty continue to protect and bless the fine people of Abia State, as well as our country, Nigeria.”
