Alan Stubbs, a former player for Everton, expressed his disappointment following Alex Iwobi’s injury in Friday night’s Emirates FA Cup match against Manchester United.
Tyrell Malacia, a Dutch defender, made a terrible tackle on the Nigerian international during the second half of the game at Old Trafford.
Iwobi was replaced by Frenchman Abdoulaye Dacoure after being stretchered off the field.
The 26-year-old has played frequently for the Toffees this season, and there are worries that he may be in store for a protracted injury layoff.
On Saturday, a scan will be performed on the midfielder to establish the severity of the injury.
According to Stubbs, Everton, who is struggling for relegation, cannot afford to lose Iwobi for an extended period of time due to injury.
“Alex Iwobi’s ankle has gone inside after he just fell over. Because of how it appears, I’m praying he hasn’t damaged his ankle ligaments, Stubbs told the BBC.
“I’m hoping that what we’re currently witnessing is merely preventative, but Iwobi seemed upset. Players are aware of unfavorable situations.
