Members of the state House of Assembly have invited the Commissioner of Police, CP, Ayodele Ogundele to discuss the robbery of the palace of the Emir of Minna in Niger State, Alhaji Umar Farouk Bahago, on Tuesday.
On Monday, CP Ogundele will report on the event at the Emir’s palace and the current security situation in Minna and the surrounding area.
During a visit of condolence to the Emir’s palace on Friday, State House of Assembly Speaker Abdulmalik Sarkin made the announcement.
You may recall that on Tuesday about 4:30 p.m., armed robbers entered the Palace of the Emir and attacked his cashier as he returned from a commercial bank with funds intended for the salaries of the palace’s personnel.
However, the bandits shot two guards before forcibly taking cash from the register and making their getaway.
The Speaker has announced that the Commissioner of Police has been called to the floor of the House to advise lawmakers on the status of the ongoing robbery investigation, as well as the current state of security in Minna and the surrounding area, and the steps being taken to improve it.
To safeguard the safety of not just Minna, but the entire state, the House will cooperate closely with the Executive Branch and provide its full cooperation. The current administration continues to place a premium on security.
In response, Emir Bahago praised the legislators for coming to investigate the heist and thanked God that no one had been hurt.
According to him, the State Council of the Traditional Rulers would work with the 10th Assembly to ensure that it fulfills its legislative duties to the best of the people’s interests.
