Threat to national unity from ongoing attacks on Southern officeholders, according to a Northern group

According to the Arewa Youth Assembly (AYA), the biggest threat to the country’s national cohesion is the continuing, heedless attacks on officials from the south of the country.

The group’s publicity secretary, Alhaji Ali Mohammed, stated in a statement released on Friday in Kaduna that “the greatest threat to our national cohesion is the continuing attack on officeholders from the Southern portion of the country with reckless abandonment.”

The youths stated that since the country’s elections adopted BVAS and President Muhammadu Buhari signed the 2022 Electoral Act, election riggers there have turned to vote buying, which presents a significant obstacle to those involved in elections.

The CBN of Nigeria implemented new regulations to combat vote-buying election rigging and the multi-billion naira kidnapping for ransom, the statement bemoaned. Since then, sponsors of the two demonic enterprises have persisted in funding attacks on the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

The statement went on to suggest that some organisations appeared to be speaking for northerners, claiming that if such claims were allowed to continue, they would paint northerners as anarchists, disregarding the rule of law, and without grasp of the idea of separation of powers.

The statement read as follows collectively: “We will continue to fight for the unity and advancement of our country. They are seeking to inflict evil on Mr. Emefiele, who made sure that the agricultural potential of Northern Nigeria was unlocked through the anchor-borrowers scheme and other measures.

The youths voiced their displeasure with a group from the North that urged the DSS to disregard the FCT High Court’s restraining order against the Service and the EFCC in regard to the arrest of Mr. Godwin Emefiele, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, in response to unproven allegations of corruption of national security dimension and financing of terrorist organizations.

The young people demanded that the FCT High Court act swiftly to ensure that anyone who disobeys its legitimate order is imprisoned, and they further suggested that anyone who encourage the DSS to do so should also face punishment.
