The African Union, the Regional Economic Communities, the Regional Mechanisms, and the Member States of the African Union will be holding their Fifth Mid-Year Coordination Meeting (5thMYCM) in Nairobi, Kenya, and President Bola Tinubu plans to be there.
According to a statement released on Friday by Dele Alake, Special Adviser to the President on Special Duties, Communications and Strategy, Tinubu will attend the mid-year meeting on Sunday, July 16 alongside other heads of state and government, foreign ministers of AU Member-States, and high-level dignitaries.
In his report, the ECOWAS President will detail the organization’s current level of regional integration in terms of trade, free movement of persons, investment promotion, infrastructure development, peace, security, and stability, as well as highlight the actions taken by ECOWAS institutions, member states, the private sector, and other stakeholders during the period under review to deepen integration in these areas.
Meeting under the AU’s 2023 theme, “Acceleration of African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Implementation,” the 5th MYCM will bring together the Bureau of the AU Assembly, made up of the heads of state and government from Comoros, Botswana, Burundi, and Senegal, and the heads of the eight RECs.
You may recall that at the 63rd Ordinary Session of ECOWAS, held in Guinea Bissau three days ago, Tinubu was elected as the bloc’s Chairman.
