Jarvis Johnson, a representative in the Texas House of Representatives, expressed regret that Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), could pass away in isolation.
Johnson urged the Nigerian government to free Kanu as a result of his failing health.
Johnson claimed that by refusing to free Kanu, the Nigerian government was committing genocide against the Igbo people.
He made the declaration in a letter that he signed and that Kanu’s Special Counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, sent to kuryaloaded.
He described how the Nigerian government reportedly kidnapped Kanu in Kenya and resisted pleas for his release from the UN Working Group and court rulings.
“Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is the foremost Freedom Fighter for the rights of downtrodden people in Nigeria,” the statement says in part.
“Kanu continues to be held in solitary confinement by the Secret Police of the Nigerian Government because it has failed to abide by the rulings of its own courts.
“Nigeria’s Secret Police have disregarded Kanu’s medical needs. His usual pharmaceutical supply and access to his doctors have been withheld.
His health has gotten worse, and now there is concern that he would pass alone in isolation.
Johnson emphasized that Kanu’s demand for Biafra was his only offense.
He pleaded with the US administration to persuade its Nigerian counterpart to put an end to the genocide against Kanu.
“I demand Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s immediate release. The Nigerian government must abide by both the UN mandate and local court rulings. One citizen at a time, the Nigerian government is committing another sort of genocide, he continued.
