According to Mr. Usman Alkali Baba, the Inspector General of Police, police will not spare common criminals who are hiding behind agitation to target Anambra people.
According to him, the demand for a separate state made by persons who commit crimes in Anambra State and also target police officers and other infrastructure is a cover for criminal activity.
At a commissioning ceremony for a state-of-the-art divisional police station that is attached to a police barracks for senior divisional police officials in Amawbia, close to Awka, Anambra State, Baba made this statement.
He added that there are more effective ways to protest than engaging in illegal activity and that police will no longer permit such criminals to continue operating in any state in the South East.
“Secessionist ideologies cannot persist in this manner. The government won’t be scared by these folks since there are more effective ways to protest. The push for Biafra is merely a veil for wrongdoing in this case.
“Vigilante agents are essential to our efforts to combat crime. Without the work of the vigilante operatives, we cannot succeed. We implores the public to assist their vigilante. Everyone should be concerned about security, and security means speaking out when anything is wrong or when there is something you should be doing.
“We support you in maintaining law and order in Anambra, Commissioner of Police of Anambra State. The governor has always helped us and is friendly toward security.
We will create a level playing field and the necessary conditions for all politicians to utilize their right to vote in order to meet the challenges of 2023.
Speaking on the new divisional police station, Baba said it is an initiative to give operatives of the police a conducive working environment, to enable them give their very best.
“This is one of the projects we have put in place for our officers to have a great place to work and retire into. We need more edifices like this to be able to provide our men with a good environment to work.
Earlier, the state police commissioner, CP Echeng Echeng in his remark described the new division as a milestone in the repositioning of the police force for better delivery.
