Williams Uchemba, an actor, criticizes INEC for collecting PVC

Willams Uchemba, a Nollywood actor who is deeply concerned about the forthcoming 2023 election, has chastised staff of the Independent Electoral Commission, INEC, for their attitudes toward Nigerians trying to acquire their voters’ cards.

He bemoaned the problems faced by electorates in obtaining their ID cards from INEC centers across the country.

There have been videos of qualified voters screaming out about how they are being handled by INEC workers who go so far as to collect money before issuing the cards.

The Abia State-born actor tweeted a video on his Instagram account of some Nigerians protesting not being able to pick up their Permanent Voters’ Cards, PVCs, from their respective zones.

According to Uchemba, most registered voters are told by INEC employees that their PVCs are either “not ready or cannot be located,” and that INEC cannot disenfranchise people and expect a free and fair election.

“I hope INEC is ready for what is ahead,” he says.

He encouraged the electoral umpire to take action to fix the issue.
