You have totally let down Nigerians, MBF warns Buhari

The Middle Belt Forum (MBF) has deplored President Muhammadu Buhari’s abject failure to put an end to Boko Haram and other terrorists who have caused tremendous suffering to Nigerians.

Buhari had maintained that his government had eliminated Boko Haram militants who were generating disturbance in the nation.

President Buhari announced the progress made by his administration in the area of national security at the banquet held in his honor in Damaturu, the capital of Yobe State.

In response to Buhari’s remarks, Dr. Bitrus Pogu, the National President of the MBF, stated that the President had utterly failed to fulfill his pledge to eradicate Boko Haram from the nation.

He thought that instead of keeping his word to Nigerians, the President stood by helplessly while the terrorists moved from the North East to all other regions of the nation, murdering people at random and looting property.

He continued, “With only two days till Christmas, Boko Haram raided Chibok and killed two people—a toddler and an old person. Additionally, they kidnapped a few folks who were getting ready for Christmas. This indicates that Boko Haram actions are still ongoing. They still have their operating headquarters there. Many of the actions that Boko Haram takes in the North go unreported.

He claimed that Boko Haram has affiliates in the North West, North Central, and other regions of Nigeria, and that they have been attacking Kaduna’s southern suburbs since last year’s end.

He questioned how the President could claim he had kept his word when kidnapping and attacking people and towns had been allowed to flourish while bombing targets had been regulated.

He argued that Nigerians should be the ones to decide if the president has kept his word after promising to make Boko Haram history in 2015. At the time, he claimed, he would accomplish just that.

“First of all, we were duped. A flag was handed to him, supposedly representing ground zero, but we knew it was false, and the attacks went on. Then it moved to areas of the North Central and North West, and it is now found everywhere, including the South West, South East, and even the South-South,” he said.

The MBF National President stated that it is up to Nigerians to hold the president accountable by telling him that he has failed miserably and has not kept his word to end Boko Haram in Nigeria. He added that “we need greater political will to ensure that the military go after them to decimate them and not to wait in a location to repel Boko Haram, or bandits as they have been renamed in the North West and other places.”

He claimed that Nigeria needs a leader who will expel them and return Nigeria to the Nigerian people so that they can move freely throughout the entire nation.

Leah Sharibu and several of the Chibok girls are still in the captivity of Boko Haram, he claimed, while he questioned what the president had accomplished.

He stated that the protection of all Nigerians’ lives and property is one of the Federal Government’s top priorities.
