Senator Athan Nneji Achonu, the Labour Party’s candidate for governor of Imo State, has spoken out against the murder of eight security personnel in the state. The dead included soldiers, police officers, and members of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps.
According to a previous report by DAILYPOST, residents of Umualumaku village, Ehime Mbano Local Government, are worried after a tragedy occurred there on Tuesday morning.
According to a statement released by Achonu, he was shocked to learn on Tuesday that eight security personnel had been brutally murdered in the Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State.
He argued that in a civilized society like ours, the senseless killing of defenseless security personnel is an outrage that cannot be tolerated.
That this most recent attack in the recurring sparks of violence occurred in my constituency makes it all the more reprehensible,” reads the statement.
The loss of life has hit me especially hard because I spent millions fixing nine broken Armoured Personnel Carriers (APC), five of which were destined for Okigwe Zone to protect security officers while they did their dangerous work.
The government should clarify the whereabouts and purposes of these cars beyond their use in rigging the last state elections.
To ensure the well-being of these officers, I urge the state administration to swiftly send reinforcements to the region.
I trust that the state government has not ran out of ideas for protecting its citizens’ lives and property.
It’s unfathomable that Imo State has become the South-East’s epicenter of violence and carnage.
Ndi Imo shall no longer allow this awful wastage of lives and property, and I therefore call on the Federal Government to restructure the whole security apparatchik in Imo State.
While I express my deepest sympathies to the Nigerian military, the Nigerian police, and the entire security apparatus and families of the slain heroes, I also urge those responsible for the bloodshed to stop.
Further, “I also charge Ndi Imo not to surrender to the blackmail of the enemy of the people but to remain resolute in their desire to enthrone light over darkness.”
