Posted by The contingency strategy in case the Bimodal Voter Registration System, or BVAS, machines malfunction at polling places during the general elections of 2023 has been made public by the Independent National Electoral Commission, or INEC.
According to INEC spokesman Festus Okoye, the Commission would make sure that there were extra BVAS at every voting location.
According to Okoye, INEC has already planned for the usage of the BVAS in the nation’s more than 176,000 polling places.
In an interview with Channels Television, Okoye stated: “We are going to have some spare BVAS for each electoral ward to be deployed quickly if there is any problem or any challenge in any of our polling stations. Additionally, we have skilled technical support personnel on hand who can step in if there is a problem with the BVAS.
The Electoral Act requires, however, that we invalidate voting in that specific polling place and hold a new election within 24 hours if the BVAS continues to malfunction up until the polls close.
