Michael Carrick, the manager of Middlesbrough, has stated that he would be ecstatic if Chuba Akpom ended the season with the most goals in the Sky Bet Championship.
Boxing Day at the Riverside Stadium saw Boro defeat Wigan Athletic 3-0 thanks to a hat-trick from Akpom.
The forward, who was born in Nigeria, has already tallied 12 goals in 16 league games for the team this year.
The 25-year-old and Viktor Gyokeres of Coventry City are tied for first place in the second tier goal rankings.
After initially struggling at the club, the former Arsenal star is now flourishing.
Following the game, Carrick stated, “For me, it’s all about the team. I haven’t talked to him about that (finishing top scorer).
Naturally, I would want him to win the scoring title since it would demonstrate our team’s success.
“If he can achieve that, it would be a bonus. I’m content as long as we’re winning, regardless of whether he scores one, two, or three goals; I just want to see him help us win.
