A women’s organization in Cross River State called StandUp for Women Society (SWS) has demanded that the assassin of Miss Edemanwan Edem be apprehended, prosecuted, and imprisoned.
The girl lived in Iban Amanso, Akpabuyo, where she passed away, and was allegedly murdered there last week by a man named Mr. Eyo Bassey.
She claimed that the suspect owed her more than one million Naira.
She was an executive member of SWS up until her death and was a powerful advocate for women in all contexts.
The group called her murder horrific, cruel, and savage. The incident took place at a locality in the state’s Akpabuyo LGA.
The entire force of the law must be applied on the suspect, according to a statement issued by the State Chairperson of SWS in Calabar, Umo Basi-Edet, who also serves as the Chairperson of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ).
In spite of Miss Edemanwan’s best efforts, he refused to repay the money, and instead, Eyo Bassey killed her and dumped her body in a septic tank.
Although the suspect had asserted that Edemanwan had been kidnapped and carried away by her captors, Umo added, “The decomposing corpse of Edemanwan was discovered a few days later by the kids of the neighborhood.
We applaud the Anti-Kidnapping Squad for their quick action and thorough investigation. But we want to emphasize that justice must be served in this case.
“After all the financial support she provided to the suspect, Miss Edemanwan Edem does not deserve to be slain in this way.
Her family has lost a primary provider, and the neighborhood and society as a whole have lost a great Woman.
According to the suspect, he gathered the funds to expand his palm oil business.
Additionally, a suspect has admitted that he tried to poison her twice but was unsuccessful.
