Roberto Martinez, a former head coach of Belgium, has verbally agreed to join Portugal.

Just over a month after Martinez resigned from his position with Belgium following the 2022 World Cup, he was appointed.

Regardless of how well the Red Devils performed in Qatar, the Spaniard insisted that his departure was still scheduled.

I didn’t quit. The term of my contract is up. Six years have passed. I knew I wanted to play in the [2018] World Cup when I arrived. After that, we were so absorbed in the project that we took home the bronze. He exclaimed, “I’m so proud of these players.

After leaving Belgium, Martinez reportedly had offers from clubs and other nations.

But according to The Athletic, he has subsequently come to terms with Portugal, who let Fernando Santos go after the World Cup.

Cristiano Ronaldo was infamously benched by Santos for their final two games of the competition.
