Prof. Bernard Odoh, the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, gubernatorial candidate in Ebonyi State, was allegedly attacked on Thursday by suspected Ebubeagu operatives.
During the incident, they were accused of killing Odoh’s driver.
Odoh was allegedly attacked outside Rest House, Okpoto community in Ebonyi State’s Ishielu Local Government Area, according to kuryaloaded.
The candidate was also attacked by hoodlums on his way to commission a campaign office in Iboko community, Izzi LGA, Ebonyi State, a few days ago.
Mr. Charles Otu, Director, Media and Publicity, APGA Campaign Council, told newsmen in Abakaliki that Odoh and his crew were allegedly ambushed by suspected Ebubeagu agents.
“An unmarked silver-colored Sienna, laden with suspected Ebubeagu and not less than 8 people, parked on the left side of the road and began fire with an AK-47 as soon as they spotted the team’s leading pilot vehicle,” he claimed.
“The pilot vehicle was shot at at least eight times before they cordoned off the gubernatorial candidate’s vehicle and riddled his Prado jeep with gunfire.
“During the process, his driver was shot at, and while he bled heavily, the ADC quickly drove off the vehicle, all tyres already punctured and flat down, till he made it to the Pele Filling Station.”
Otu also said that five people were presumed missing, with two more suffering critical gunshot wounds.
Mr. Friday Nnanna Ujor, the Ebubeagu commander in Ebonyi State, denied knowledge of the claimed attack and advised the state’s opposition parties to abstain from accusing Ebubeagu of masterminding attacks.
“Tell them that it is a falsehood,” he says. Ebubeagu did not assault anyone. They should leave Ebubeagu alone, rather than calling him whenever they have an issue.
“Last week, another party assassinated one Ebubeagu, and no one spoke about it.
“Tell them that the Ebubeagu commander said, ‘no Ebubeagu attacked anybody yesterday’. This thing that the opposition is doing, the day that they killed one Ebubeagu at Onicha LGA, they said it is because they are dragging one thousand naira but when we did an investigation, we found out that it was not true.”
