The Super Eagles of Nigeria have moved up from 40th to 39th in the latest FIFA world rankings.
On Thursday, June 29, the ranking was published on the official website of the world football governing body.
In Africa, the Super Eagles are presently sixth, trailing Morocco (1st), Senegal (2nd), Tunisia (3rd), Algeria (4th), and Egypt (5th).
Jose Peseiro’s team moved up one spot after defeating Sierra Leone 3-2 in Group A of the 2023 AFCON qualifiers in Monrovia, Liberia.
In September, they will play at home against bottom team So Tomé and Principe.
Meanwhile, Argentina remains global number one over three months after regaining the position, courtesy to friendly victories over Australia and Indonesia.
France and Brazil are ranked third and fourth, respectively, with England fourth and Belgium fifth.
The next FIFA global rankings will be released on July 20, 2023.
