Two deaths have been reported by the Taraba State Police Command as a result of the resumed fighting in the Karim-Lamido Local Government Area.

It also showed that at least five villages were destroyed by the rioting teenagers.

On Saturday, the Command’s PPRO, Abdullahi Usman, confirmed that the turmoil in the council is real, calling it a “gorilla welfare.”

There has been tension between the council’s Wurkun and Karinjo members regarding where the traditional stool’s office should be located.

Police, troops, and other security personnel have been sent to the region in response to the command’s claim that members of the Karinjo community are responsible for the violence.

He further claimed that five Wurkun villages were wiped out because the Karinjo hired mercenaries from the neighboring Lau local government.

The PPRO assured the council that life in the two settlements and the municipality as a whole will return to normal once the command took control of the issue.

Over 13 people were slain and several homes were burned in the council just days before the current administration took office.

In addition to the deaths and injuries, many individuals, mostly women and children, had to flee their homes.

Recent reports indicate that homes and other property in Garin Marwa, Sarkin Kudu, Sallamin Kala, and Yashi Pena were destroyed in the early hours of today as a result of the ongoing conflict.

Seth Samuel Sule, an eyewitness, told authorities that several pets and livestock had been stolen.

He also requested that the government work with the security agencies so that more security people could be sent out to the neighborhoods and the council.

At the time this story was written, evacuees from Karim-Lamido were taking shelter in neighboring councils.
